Leonard’s Express Celebrates Drivers During National Truck Driver Appreciation Week

Sep 15, 2022

FARMINGTON, NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 15, 2022 –
This week, Leonard’s Express – a leading transportation services provider offering refrigerated trucking, dry van, warehousing, and freight brokerage services – honors the millions of professional truck drivers who work every day to deliver America’s freight safely and securely to communities across the nation. National Truck Driver Appreciation Week pays tribute to America’s “highway heroes” – professional truck drivers who have done so much to help keep our economy and communities moving forward, even as the pandemic and other headwinds such as high fuel prices have presented significant challenges. As essential workers, the efforts and contributions of frontline truck drivers deserve America’s gratitude and appreciation. When the world stopped, truck drivers kept moving.

“We like to say we appreciate our drivers every week,” said Leonard’s Express CEO Ken Johnson, “but this is the week dedicated to celebrating that appreciation. Along with the American Trucking Association and the entire trucking industry, we recognize the 3.6 million professional truck drivers that are out on the road nationwide. Professional truck drivers deliver 70% of America’s annual freight. These men and women log over 400 billion miles every year, moving over 10 billion tons of goods.”

Professional Driver Fitzhugh Aiken (L) and Driver Advocate Chris McShane (R) celebrate National Truck Driver Appreciation Week at the Leonard’s Express terminal in New Castle, Delaware.

To honor their own drivers this year, Leonard’s Express worked with their internal Driver Advisory Board to offer a variety of gifts based on drivers’ needs. Drivers could choose from a customized Leonard’s windbreaker or hat, plus one of the following:

  • • A pet package, which includes a leash, plastic bags, and a $50 Chewy gift card.
  • • A $75 gift card.
  • • A leaf blower, ideal for cleaning out trailers.
  • • Leonard’s Express “Thank You” cards.

In addition, each of Leonard’s Express’ five terminals (New York, Delaware, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Idaho) is hosting its own celebration. Activities include breakfasts, bag lunches, a barbecue, food trucks, or food gift cards – whatever the terminal staff believes is best for their drivers.

“We ask our customers, vendors, and all Americans to take a few moments this week to recognize the significant contributions and sacrifices of our professional truck drivers,” Johnson added. “The efficiency and safety that these drivers provide allow businesses and the general public to confidently and safely ship goods across state lines and to every corner of the country – which our economy fully depends on.”
